According to industry insiders, the bottled water business started in Bangladesh in the 1990s. At that time, the use of bottled water was popular among affluent people, but the situation changed gradually as bottled water became popular among the public. People often drink bottled water regularly when they visit hotels, restaurants, offices, ceremonies, or travel. There are more than thirty companies manufacturing bottled mineral water in Bangladesh. 35-40 CR litters of bottled water worth 850-950 CR sold in a year. This business shrank by over 50% amid the pandemic. Despite being a developing country, Bangladesh has witnessed a significant increase in the demand for premium bottled water brands among its middle and upper-class consumers.

According to the people involved in the business, about 35-40 crore liters of bottled water worth Tk850-950 crore were sold in a year across the country before the pandemic struck. The bottled water business shrank by more than 50% last year as the COVID-19 pandemic closed offices, schools, colleges, hotels, restaurants, and various social events. But it started growing again when the countrywide shutdown was over, and the officials concerned think that the business will return to normal this summer. Above all, approximately US$1.8bn is projected to be reached by the revenue generated in the Bottled Water market in Bangladesh in the coming couple of years. This market is expected to grow annually by 3.14% (CAGR 2024-2027).

We have covered those retail outlets where 100% pure drinking water is being sold. We have surveyed total 6 types of outlets, including General store, Grocery, Restaurants food retails Modern trade etc, Among the total retail outlets, we have covered 28.8% daily commodities outlets, 29.6% are Soft drinks seller, 30% pure drinking water seller, 4.8% Ready Made Food Seller, 6.4% are Confectionary Items seller and 0.5% are restaurants.
