This business shrank by over 50% amid the pandemic. Despite being a developing country, Bangladesh has witnessed a significant increase in the demand for premium bottled water brands among its middle and upper-class consumers.
According to the people involved in the business, about 35-40 crore liters of bottled water worth Tk850-950 crore were sold in a year across the country before the pandemic struck. The bottled water business shrank by more than 50% last year as the COVID-19 pandemic closed offices, schools, colleges, hotels, restaurants, and various social events. But it started growing again when the countrywide shutdown was over, and the officials concerned think that the business will return to normal this summer. Above all, approximately US$1.8bn is projected to be reached by the revenue generated in the Bottled Water market in Bangladesh in the coming couple of years. This market is expected to grow annually by 3.14% (CAGR 2024-2027).

We surveyed retail outlets that sell 100% pure drinking water. In total, we covered six types of outlets: general stores, grocery shops, restaurants, food retailers, modern trade outlets, and others. Among the outlets surveyed:
